When 30 Minutes Works Well
A 30-minute private lesson is a practical starting point for many young beginners and recreational students. It gives the teacher time to review posture, technique, reading and assigned music while keeping the pace active.
At OPSMA, a regular 30-minute lesson is $35, or $34 with pre-authorized payment. Piano students begin at age 5, and the teacher can recommend a longer lesson later as the workload grows.
Why Students Move to 45 Minutes
Forty-five minutes provides room to work carefully without rushing. A student may need time for scales, sight-reading, ear training, theory and more than one substantial piece. This length often suits developing students or learners preparing for structured examinations.
The regular rate is $52.50 for 45 minutes, or $51 with pre-authorized payment. Upper RCM levels use different tiered rates; see the current tuition information.
Who Benefits From 60 Minutes?
An hour can be useful for advanced students, older learners with several goals, or students balancing technique, theory and demanding repertoire. It is not automatically better for a beginner. If concentration drops after 35 minutes, a shorter focused lesson may lead to stronger progress.
