Home / Piano Lessons

OPSMA provides one-on-one piano lessons in Mississauga for children age 5 and older, teenagers and adults. Each student receives a lesson plan shaped around their age, experience, musical interests and goals—from playing a first song to preparing for an RCM examination.

Private lesson rates: $35 for 30 minutes, $52.50 for 45 minutes or $70 for 60 minutes. Pre-authorized payment rates are $34, $51 and $68.

A Personal Piano Program for Every Student

Beginners start with steady rhythm, note reading, healthy hand position and simple pieces. As technique develops, students add scales, chords, sight-reading, ear training, theory and expressive playing. Teachers can include classical music, popular songs and examination repertoire so lessons stay structured without losing the student’s interest.

Piano Lessons for Children, Teens and Adults

Young beginners

Children age 5 and older learn through short, varied activities that match their attention span. Parents receive practical guidance about books and home practice. If you are deciding when to begin, read our guide to the your first month of piano lessons.

School-age and RCM students

Students can follow a recreational path or work toward Royal Conservatory of Music levels. RCM preparation may include repertoire, studies, technical requirements, ear training, sight-reading and theory.

Adult piano students

Adults are welcome whether they are complete beginners, returning after many years, or want focused help with a particular style or piece. The pace is adjusted to fit the learner’s schedule and goals.

Piano Lesson FAQs

What age can a child start?

OPSMA accepts piano students from age 5. Readiness also depends on the child’s ability to follow simple instructions, focus briefly and practise with family support.

Do students need a piano at home?

Regular access to an acoustic piano or a digital piano with full-size keys is important for progress. A teacher can advise you before you buy an instrument.

Can students prepare for RCM exams?

Yes. RCM preparation is available, but exams are optional. Students may also learn for personal enjoyment.
